Pivot Glass Doors

Glass doors that rotate around a pivot axis for a distinctive entrance. Glass weight, opening clearance and hardware are planned as one assembly.

A pivot glass door turns around an axis supported at the top and bottom, rather than conventional hinges fixed along the side of the leaf. This creates a different opening movement and can give an entrance a distinctive architectural presence.

It can suit a villa entrance to an internal room, a reception space or a statement partition in Dubai. SEG reviews the glass, slim aluminium profiles, pivot hardware and surrounding construction together. The finished door should feel comfortable to use, not simply look impressive in an elevation.

What it gives you

  • A pivoting movement for a distinctive glass entrance
  • Pivot position selected around the opening and usable passage
  • Glass and slim framing coordinated with adjacent panels
  • Hardware matched to leaf dimensions and weight
  • Closing behaviour and handles considered for everyday use

How it works

The pivot location changes how the leaf moves through the room. An offset axis means a smaller part of the door swings to the opposite side of the opening, so both sides need clearance. Door width alone does not describe the available passage when the leaf is open.

The pivot mechanism, glass processing and supporting frame must be compatible. Finished floor levels matter, as do the fixing conditions above and below the door. Depending on the hardware, options may include controlled closing or hold-open positions; these should be specified rather than assumed.

Before ordering, review the sweep against furniture, walls and pedestrian routes. If the door is external, part of an escape route or required to meet an acoustic or fire specification, the complete assembly needs a separate assessment. An interior pivot detail should not be treated as a substitute for a tested entrance system.

Door weight, dimensions and required functions determine the hardware selection. External and rated applications need supporting system data.

Pivot Glass Doors FAQs

Practical answers to help you plan your project.

How is a pivot door different from a hinged door?

A conventional hinged door turns from hinges at its side. A pivot door rotates around an axis supported at the top and bottom, often set in from the edge. This changes the swing and usable opening.

Does a pivot door need clearance on both sides?

An offset pivot can place part of the leaf on each side as it opens. The drawing should show the full sweep and any limits imposed by walls, furniture or pedestrian routes.

Can a pivot glass door close automatically?

Controlled or self-closing operation may be available with suitable hardware. The mechanism needs to be selected for the door weight, size and desired operating behaviour.

Can a pivot door be used as an exterior entrance in Dubai?

Only a suitable exterior assembly should be considered. Weather sealing, threshold, thermal performance, security and exposure need assessment; an internal glass pivot door is not automatically suitable.

What determines the price of a pivot glass door?

The glass construction, leaf size, pivot hardware, framing, finish and installation conditions determine the price. Share dimensions and the intended location for a relevant proposal.
