Self-adhesive smart film is an electrically switchable privacy layer applied to the surface of existing glass. Standard PDLC film changes from a frosted appearance when switched off to a clearer view when powered on. It is a practical option when the glass is in good condition and you want privacy without replacing the whole partition.
A meeting room can stay visually connected to the office between appointments, then become private for a discussion. How it works
PDLC means polymer dispersed liquid crystal. An electrical signal changes the alignment of the liquid crystals inside the film, altering how light passes through it. The frosted state scatters light; it does not turn the panel into a blackout screen. Close silhouettes and strong backlighting can still affect visual privacy, while some haze may remain in the clear state.
Installation starts with checking the glass surface, any existing coatings, panel dimensions and frame clearances. The film needs a suitable surface, protected edge connections and a route to its specified power supply. Controls and maintenance access should be agreed before surrounding finishes are closed.
For a renovation, send photographs of both sides of the glass and the approximate panel sizes. Include the room use and whether the surface is exposed to moisture or direct sunlight. These details help us assess retrofit film against a new laminated smart-glass panel and define the installation scope.

Can smart film be fitted to my existing office glass?
Often, yes. SEG checks surface condition, coatings, panel sizes, access and the cable route before confirming the film. Damaged, heavily textured or unsuitable coated glass may need a different solution.
Does self-adhesive smart film provide complete blackout?
No. Standard PDLC film provides a frosted visual barrier while transmitting diffused light. If you need darkness for sleeping or projection, discuss a separate blackout solution.
What happens if the power goes off?
Standard PDLC smart film returns to its frosted state when power is removed. The operating behaviour of the proposed film and controller should be confirmed before ordering.
Can I use smart film in a bathroom?
The location needs a technical review. Splash exposure, humidity, glass edges and electrical protection affect suitability. A bathroom application should not be treated as an ordinary dry office installation.
How much does smart film installation cost in Dubai?

How should I clean the installed film?
